Remembrance of September 11, 2001

Remember those 343 brave New York City firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Washington, D.C.— Ruth Soller’s original oil painting In Remembrance was acquired by the General President of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) for permanent display in their headquarters in Washington, D.C. The IAFF is an AFL-CIO affiliated labor union representing more than 240,000 professional fire fighters and emergency medical personnel in the U.S. and Canada. Soller’s painting is drawn from an October 2001 memorial service held at Ground Zero in New York City in which fire fighters handed out pieces of rubble to survivors and family members of those lost and missing in the World Trade Center. Rather than a likeness of one individual, the painting symbolizes all fire fighters who joined in the search for their brothers. “I am greatly honored and humbled that my painting has been selected for this prestigious collection. The spirit of the painting is one of indomitable hope, patriotism, and determination to move forward in the midst of grief and sorrow,” says Soller.
